Following Public Information Meeting #2 in 2016, the lead agencies agreed that the US-41 intersection will proceed as a separate Phase I project due to the larger comparative scope of improvement and to allow the Dilleys Road and Kilbourne Road intersection improvements to move forward. A third Public Meeting was held in April 2017 to present the preferred intersection alternatives for the Dilleys Road intersection and Kilbourne Road intersection. The County was unsuccessful in obtaining federal funding for construction and utilized their own funding sources to advance the projects forward. The Dilleys Road intersection improvement was completed in late 2020, which consisted of a single lane roundabout. The Kilbourne Road intersection improvement and resurfacing to IL 173 is programmed for construction in 2023. An interim safety improvement was completed in early 2021 for the east leg of the US-41 intersection to address an immediate safety need as well as include some pedestrian accessibility enhancements.
The US-41 intersection improvement anticipates Phase I Engineering completion in 2022. Design Engineering, Land Acquisition, and Construction is currently not funded. Lake County is consistently seeking funding opportunities. IDOT has jurisdiction of US-41 and improvements at this intersection are not in their current Multi-Year Program.
